Dare to be yourself with Milka Loff Fernandes
For the first time ever in WAA Podcast history, we've taken the live recordings to new heights with our very first open-air session overlooking the skyline of Berlin!
Recorded from the stunning rooftop setting at Hotel Zoo Berlin, surrounded by the secret garden of Grace Restaurant, we sat down with TV icon Milka Loff Fernandes to discuss what’s truly at the core of life: our emotions.
With over 20 years of experience in show business, Milka is no stranger to putting herself out there. She launched her career at just 17 with the music channel VIVA TV and has since navigated a long and winding path to find her own unique energy and personality. It goes without saying that Milka is a true professional who knows exactly what she wants in life and is not afraid to pursue it.
“Publicity to me means being known for a cause.”
The conversation started on a deeply personal note, with Milka sharing family photos with the audience while speaking about her childhood, her parents’ lives before and after living in Germany, and how her family never held her back from exploring different paths in life as she figured out what she wanted to do with her life and career.
As she took us through her journey from her teenage years to her early twenties, Milka made the audience erupt with applause when she emphasized the importance of daring to be unapologetically yourself, even in the face of adversity and backlash.
“I dared to be, I dared to stay. And I dare you to deal with it.”
It was only natural for the talk to then shift to mental health, with Milka speaking about her own struggles with acknowledging her depression after years of non-acknowledgement. This pivotal moment led her to leave the music TV channel and focus not only on her own mental health but also on learning how to help others through mentoring with self-empowerment and self-awareness.
By creating her own "emotional handbook," a guide which enables people to identify and articulate their emotions, Milka is now actively helping others to start conversations about their feelings as a way to overcome their problems.
“Talk about your emotions and be precise with it. That’s the only way you, and others can overcome problems.”
As the evening drew to an end, the conversation moved to motherhood and her belief in Buddhism as a means to transition, learn, and find the orientation of her needs alongside the needs of others. A truly inspiring conversation for everyone in the room.
We’d like to take this moment to say a huge thank you to our partners for this very special episode – Hotel Zoo Berlin and Grace, as well as our friends at Wella, Dr. Vivien Karl and JUNIQE for the treats in our goodie bags.
