Nadine Michelberger's Sustainable Vision
The story of the Michelberger began in 2003 when Nadine Michelberger, alongside her co-founder and husband Tom, envisioned creating the first hotel in Berlin that would replace the conventional lobby with an open space fostering encounters and connections.
Over the years this idea has transformed and evolved, and today the Michelberger team manages the acclaimed Ora restaurant, produces the super delicious coconut water Fountain of Youth and practices regenerative agriculture at their farm in Spreewald.
In the interview that kicked-off the third season, Daria sat down with Nadine to discuss the history of the Michelberger's early days and the origins of the farm, what it was really like to explore Berlin in the 90s, and how their sustainable empire took shape, which in turn influenced the Berlin restaurant scene by shifting its focus towards seeing more sustainable, local produce on our plates.
"Nothing is ever finished. Not the hotel, not another project nor ourselves. It is just an ongoing organism, living and breathing through life somehow."
Six months after their airing of the episode, we were beyond excited to be invited to spend the weekend with Nadine at the Spreewald Farm and to see first hand the fruits of their fair trade labor.
