Closing the Gender Pension Gap
Held over three days each summer, re:publica Berlin is Europe's largest festival of digital society, featuring talks and discussions from leading figures in the digital space, spanning a wide range of professions and markets from around the world.
As a podcast born in Berlin, it goes without saying that when the team at re:publica approached us about doing a live podcast we didn't have to think twice about accepting the invitation!
On a summer's day in Berlin in June, we had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Nakeema Stefflbauer, a leading software delivery expert with over 15 years of experience leading digital transformation for companies in the US and Europe. Nakeema is also the Director of Digital Client Services at ERGO and the founder and CEO of FrauenLoop, a Berlin-based non-profit computer programming network, and an outspoken activist for closing the gender pay gap in pensions and retirement.
"Women need to question their reliance on men in all things financial - as well as technical - because we are our own best advocates."
The conversion focused on women's financial independence and how to protect themselves from poverty in retirement, a fact that is not widely discussed among working women. The event left no stone unturned and no topic too taboo, with Nakeema and Daria speaking openly about what it costs to live comfortably, how to achieve financial stability and the role of social media in putting appearance over substance.
"If we feel we don't know enough to become financially independent, we should ask ourselves why and educate ourselves."
A big thank you to the amazing team at re:publica Berlin and ERGO for organizing and supporting the talk, thank you to Nakeema for her eye-opening expertise.
